Lay of the Land

We are the lucky stewards of several unique vineyards in Summerland, BC, each expressing distinct terroir through the wines, despite being located mere kilometers apart.

Our Vineyards

There is a connection between farmer and plant, vigneron and vine. Giving sweat and time and taking the fruit each season. The memory created from farm to glass. The farmer knows the benefits of the bugs and hawks. The worms and weeds. The curses of fire and disease. Water is life. A breeze has a purpose… It takes real work. Real care.

CANYON VIEW VINEYARD

Planted in 2003 on the precipice of the Trout Creek Canyon, this vineyard has been immaculately cared for from day one, and continues to this day. This south-facing vineyard has sandy soil that is dotted with river stones, producing spectacular Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from 4 terraces.

Summerland Vineryard and Winery

ELYSIA VINEYARD

Home to the winery, this vineyard was planted in 2006 with Pinot Noir and and Syrah. In 2024 we replaced the original Viognier vines with Riesling. It overlooks Okanagan Lake to the east and basks in the warmth of early and midday sun. Between the very steep slope, and a mix of glacial till, decomposed bedrock and alluvial soils, this is an ideal place for vines to thrive.

TRESTLE BEACH VINEYARD

We affectionately refer to Trestle Beach as our baby plot, recently planted in 2020. This gently sloped site sits adjacent to our Canyonview Vineyard in Summerland and naturally shares its same sandy soil structure. It exclusively houses Gamay Noir and the iconic Kettle Valley Rail trestle can be seen from the vineyard.

Farming the Lightning Rock Way

Here at Lightning Rock, farming isn’t just a job—it’s a philosophy. We’re all about sustainable and organic practices because we know they’re crucial for top-notch wine. Instead of
relying on chemicals and pesticides, we take a hands-on approach that respects the land and its natural balance.

One of our key strategies? Onsite composting. We’re big on turning grape pomace and vine
prunings into nutrient-rich compost right here on our property. It’s like a superfood for the soil, enriching it with all the good stuff needed for healthy vines and vibrant grapes. Plus, it’s a closed-loop system that reduces waste and promotes soil fertility over the long haul.

By sticking to our guns with organic farming and composting, we’re not just making wine—we’re making a statement. We’re showing that it’s possible to create exceptional wines
that truly reflect the essence of the Okanagan Valley while also being stewards of the
environment.

"In the heart of our organically cultivated vineyards, every beat resonates with purpose and nurturing. Embracing a holistic philosophy, we cherish the interconnectedness of all aspects, caring not only for vines but for our entire ecosystem. Through the steadfast practice of these principles, intricately woven into the fabric of our farming beliefs, we awaken the earth's vitality, nurturing an environment where biodiversity thrives and harmony saturates our soils."
